Our charity partner, Motivez, is on a mission to address the world’s biggest problems through the next generation of STEM innovators. To help the young leaders they support secure fulfilling careers, they hold an Application Season. This is a two-week programme for 16–25-year-olds who are seeking apprenticeships, internships, and entry-level opportunities within STEM and beyond. The programme is designed to equip them with the skills and tools to excel in the application process.

Two Spectris employees, Angela Mills and Adisa Mucen, volunteered to share their expertise in two separate virtual sessions – one focusing on CVs and cover letters, and the other on interviews and assessments.

Angela said:

“I participated in the Application Season Mentoring Programme, where I provided guidance to young people on formatting and content for their CVs and cover letters. I was very impressed by the skills showcased in their CVs. I offered advice on being more concise, effective storytelling, and self-promotion. Additionally, I explained about the AI screening tools that many companies use today. I emphasized the importance of tailoring CVs to each job application to ensure their skills are picked up by these tools, to ensure progression to interview stage.

The CVs I reviewed were very impressive. Young people today, whether through school or university, are exposed to a significant amount of varied technology. This young talent would bring significant value to any organization, and their enthusiasm was evident from the turnout at the session.

“It was a real pleasure to participate in Interviews and Assessment Centre session with Motivez and all the young individuals.

The mentees had an opportunity to engage with experienced mentors and practice showcasing a wide range of their skills, as well as identifying areas for improvement. It was fantastic to see mentees being very enthusiastic and open for practicing new techniques, and in general, exploring the potential career paths.

This was a great reminder that just a few hours of our time can be a very valuable experience for young people and support them to get one step closer to securing a job of their dreams.”

We are delighted to have supported Motivez in this great initiative and we look forward to participating in future volunteering opportunities. Thank you, Angela and Adisa, for taking the time to share your expertise and advice with these talented young leaders!
