1625 Independent People is a Bristol-based charity that supports young people aged 16–25 who are homeless, leaving care, or at risk of homelessness. With a focus on prevention, housing, and holistic support, the charity provides safe accommodation, tailored advice, and opportunities for education, employment, and wellbeing. Their work is rooted in empowering young people to build independent, fulfilling lives, often through specialist programmes that address mental health, trauma, and systemic barriers.

Their Youth Education Service (YES) provides Maths Functional Skills tuition and qualifications equivalent to GCSE for disadvantaged 16-25 year olds who have disengaged from mainstream education. The service offers a mix of 1:1 and group Maths tuition from qualified, trauma-informed teachers, ensuring students receive the tailored support they need. Many young people YES engages have struggled with education due to instability, but their approach helps rebuild their confidence and numeracy skills. By mastering essential Maths concepts, students improve their problem-solving abilities, budgeting skills, and employability prospects.

We are supporting the Maths Functional Skills tuition for two years.
